Intro to Kayaking
Introduction to Kayaking is the place to start your new adventure. We teach the basics of boats and gear then head onto the water for Kayak strokes. We try to stay on top of the water for this whole lesson, and teach you the skills that will serve you best when exploring close to shore where all the cool things are anyway.
Our rescue class takes place in the comfort of the Courtenay & District Memorial Outdoor pool. In this lesson we learn how to fall out of our boat and help each other get back in. The skills taught are wet exits and tandem rescues, and if there's time we play with types of solo rescues.
Edging & Bracing
This is the final step in our series of Introductory lessons. During edging and bracing we explore all the strokes taught in Intro to Kayaking and add the element of doing them while edging our kayaks to increase manoeuvrability. We end with a lecture on weather
and sea state that is required when planning short excursions.
Custom lessons are a great option if you have specific goals in mind. We have instructors that will build a plan with you before heading out on the water and we offer this in one hour increments. Most lessons will require two hours or more but if you are interested in learning or building on your kayak roll one hour is plenty of time.
