A Heartfelt Farewell from Sue Brass

A huge thank you to Comox Valley Kayaks, all the amazing staff over the years and all our fabulous customers who’ve kept things fun, floaty and full of laughs over the years.

And a very special thank you to CVK’s owner, Don Lockwood, for teaching me to paddle, many, many years ago and for convincing me to come me back to work after my husband passed away. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Looking back it all started innocently with Don dragging me to lessons, sunset tours and the dreaded overnight kids camps where sleep was optional and patience a distant memory. Then I left for a few years and came back to retail life in the shop. Highlights? Hmmm, a roof rack falling and breaking my foot in a couple places, a car literally coming through the building (drive- thru kayak shop anyone?) and a revolving door of staff changes that I couldn’t keep up with. And then there was Covid, what’s a little Global Pandemic to top things off?
And yet I stuck around and I’m glad I did but this old gal is trading in paddles for pitchforks and heading into retirement. I’ll be on my farm, digging in my gardens, wrangling goats, chasing chickens and pretending my knees still work. Realistically I’ve probably got one good season left before I become a lawn ornament ~ but I’m going out swinging (and limping) and still getting in the occasional paddle.

Again, thanks for all the laughs, support, great memories and awesome paddles. You’ve made this chapter unforgettable.
71 AND DONE!!
With love and creaky joints,
Sue
